Supporting Defence Communities

Army Art

Army Art is an annual event held in Western Australia, aimed at assisting charitable causes, promoting Western Australian artists, and fostering relationships between the Australian Defence Force and the wider community.

The event is organised and by around 70 volunteers, mainly from a Defence background. They include spouses of members at Campbell Barracks, Irwin Barracks and Leeuwin Barracks, retired members of the Defence Forces and parents of serving Reservists.

Defence Bank is proud to be the major sponsor of this event in 2011, which was attended by 800 people, and raised over $62,000 in sales of artwork. The beneficiaries of this event were Catch Music, a network of people who love music, and the Fremantle Foundation, a philanthropic organisation that supports the needs of the people of Freemantle.

Supporting Defence Families

Lavarack Barracks

Gecko’s Family Centre at Lavarack Barracks, North Queensland, is staffed by Army personnel. They coordinate social events to provide enriching experiences to all Defence personnel and their families. July 2011 saw the 4th birthday of the Centre, with over 1000 people attending their Family Day.

Defence Bank was there on the day, with our ever-popular “Treasure Chest” competition. Guests visiting the Defence Bank marquee were given keys to the Chest, with a lucky few receiving the keys that opened it, taking home treasures of Camo Pigs, Cam Bears and, for those a little more grown up, wine and cheese board packs.

Defence Bank Regional Manager Greg Hamblin was present on the day, along with Lavarack branch staff. Greg said that the day was one of the best Defence Bank has ever been involved in, with the kids lining up to get their photo taken with the Defence Bank “pirates”!

Kicking off the K-Series

It’s that time of year again when Defence personnel battle it out in The Kapooka K-Series. This tri-service sporting event consists of Rugby Union, Rugby League, AFL and Netball competitions and runs throughout the year.

Defence Bank were in the crowd as the first round kicked off on March 12. ADF teams from across Australia came together at Kapooka to compete in the K7 (Netball) and K12 (AFL) competitions, each showing fierce competition and admirable sportsmanship.

But of course there can only be one winner on the day and Defence Bank would like to congratulate all the victors on games well played. Take a look at some of the action we snapped below.
