Australia’s newest war memorial, the Avenue of Honour, has opened in far-north Queensland in remembrance of the diggers who were killed in Afghanistan. The Avenue of Honour was started by the family of Private Ben Chuck, one of three commandos killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan in 2010. The local Yungaburra community has played a significant role in fundraising for the memorial, in particular 3Bde who raised over $17,000, largely through a raffle which Defence Bank was proud to support.
The prestigious Australian Aerospace Defence Force Charity Ball was once again held in Brisbane with over 1,000 guests attending to raise money for Legacy. Defence Bank was proud to be a major sponsor and added some glamour to the evening with the Defence Bank High Rollers Casino. Guests could try their luck at blackjack, roulette, the craps table or the money wheel, with all proceeds from the casino going to Legacy.
