A member update from our CEO, David.

The federal and state governments recently announced a stage one closure for non-essential businesses and places where people gather. Defence Bank is defined as an essential service and our branches and Contact Centre will remain open for members.

We will continue to closely monitor and be guided by Commonwealth Government advice on how to operate during this period with our immediate priorities as always to;

  • support the well-being of both our members and employees; and,
  • ensure our everyday banking services continue to be delivered.




In-branch banking.

We love serving you in our branches and we’re taking all necessary precautions to protect the health and safety of our people and our members. If you do decide to visit one of our branches we ask that you only visit if you are well and that you adhere to the government’s social distancing guidelines of 1.5 metres.

Banking remotely.

If you are self-isolating or choosing to minimise contact with the public, Defence Bank provides a number of convenient options to manage your everyday banking without the need to visit a branch.

These include:

  • Our award-winning mobile banking app. If you haven’t downloaded the app yet, you should. It allows you to make payments by BPay, to send and receive money instantly using Osko and PayID, to change your PIN, report your card lost or stolen as well as a range of other options.
  • Online banking on the Defence Bank website.
  • Our Australia-based Contact Centre on 1800 033 139.
  • All five digital wallet options which allow you to contactless pay using Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, Garmin and Fitbit Pay;
  • You can withdraw cash for free from any of the ANZ, Westpac, NAB and Commonwealth Bank or Defence Bank ATMs, and we recommend that you use hand sanitiser before and after using an ATM.

We have a range of options that could apply to your situation such as:

  • a pause on home loan repayments;
  • interest-only loan options; and,
  • an ability to reduce your repayment amount or access your redraw if you’re currently ahead on your repayments.
