Top tips for posting this summer

Posting to a new base can be stressful at the best of times so we have put together our top 4 posting tips to help you make a smoother move this summer.

Tip 1) Speak to your bank before you move.

Even if you are only moving for a short amount of time, make sure you contact your local Defence Bank branch and advise them of your new address before you move. Banks require correct information for a variety of reasons including

  • Identification
  • Replacement cards
  • Bank statements
  • Insurance policy renewals
  • Loan / any paperwork which could cause problems

You can also opt to receive some communictions electronically such as eStatements.

Tip 2) Review and update your insurance policies.

Make sure you contact your insurance providers and review your policies before you move. Your new address could affect your premium which may increase or decrease depending on where you are moving to. If your insurance is held with your bank then you can update your address at the same time as you do your personal details, just don't leave this until the last minute.

Tip 3) Update your emergency contact details.

In addition to informing your bank of your new residential address, take a moment to also check and see if your emergency contact details are still correct and update them if required.

Tip 4) Will your new home have reception?

As people rely on their mobile phones for much more than simply receiving and making calls, if you can, check and see if your current mobile carrier has coverage in the area you are moving to.

If it doesn't provide good reception, shop around for a new provider so this is something that you don't have to worry about when you move into your new home.
