When Defence Bank member Brahmjyot “Brahm” Singh, a Flying Officer at RAAF Base Williamtown, and his sister decided to surprise their dad with a car for Father’s Day, it was their way of recognising everything he had done for their family.
“He’s worked his whole life for us,” Brahm said. “We thought, why don’t we get our dad a car and gift it to him?”
But buying the car came with a few moving parts. Brahm was posted to RAAF Base Williamtown, while the car he wanted to buy was located interstate in Victoria. He needed a car loan process that was straightforward and could work around the realities of Defence life.

“It was so straightforward,” Brahm said. “I submitted everything I needed to and, boom, two days later I was pre-approved.”

With Brahm in Newcastle, the car in Victoria and family travelling from different states, clear communication made a real difference.
Amanda helped coordinate the paperwork and insurance information, contacting Brahm whenever something was needed and keeping him updated throughout the process.
“I never had to chase her up,” Brahm said. “She chased me to make sure everything was progressing smoothly.”
“That’s a big thing for people in Defence. We love efficiency. We love things being done quickly and properly.”
Once everything was ready, Brahm flew from Sydney to Melbourne while his sister travelled from Adelaide. Together, along with their brother, they collected the car and drove it to Adelaide, where their dad received a Father’s Day surprise he never saw coming.
